Rebecca’s Story Continues
FNF Vs. Retaken Sanity continues the story from the Starving Artist mod. Rebecca returns as the main character after collapsing at the end of the earlier story. Retaken Sanity shows what happens next instead of starting a new adventure with an unrelated opponent.
This makes the mod much more story-focused than many short Friday Night Funkin’ projects. Animated scenes and spoken dialogue appear between songs. Players see Rebecca in different places and meet several characters connected to her life.
The game also changes who the player controls. Rebecca takes the playable role during some parts. Boyfriend appears in others. Giz also becomes playable.
That change gives Retaken Sanity more variety than a mod where Boyfriend stands on the same side of every battle.
Seven Songs Across the Story
Retaken Sanity contains seven main tracks. They are “InHarmony,” “Wake Up,” “Unwind,” “Happy End,” “Silent Hills,” “Love to Death,” and “Grey.” The story spreads these songs across two main weeks with an extra secret song connected to another ending.
Each track takes place during a different part of Rebecca’s journey. The surroundings change as the story moves forward. One scene can feel calm while another carries much more tension.
The mod also changes some normal FNF ideas. During “Unwind,” for example, the player’s note line sits on the left side rather than following the usual placement. “InHarmony” also uses Rebecca and Gamma in an unusual playable setup.
More Than a Simple Song Pack
The rhythm system still uses timed notes. Players press the matching keys when symbols reach their targets. Missing too often can end a song and force another try.
The bigger attraction comes from seeing what happens between those songs. Retaken Sanity uses its music to move Rebecca’s story forward. Cutscenes, changing playable characters, new locations, voice acting, and different outcomes make the game feel closer to a small story game built around FNF battles.
Players who know the first Starving Artist mod will understand more of the background. The sequel still gives enough scenes to show where Rebecca is and what happens around her. FNF Vs. Retaken Sanity stands out because the characters and story receive as much attention as the note charts.
